Leeds Health and Care
Following a pilot to equip residents in Lincoln Green to gain employment at St James' Hospital, a number of our Anchors are now involved in the Connecting Communities to Health and Care programme which addresses the root cause of barriers to employment that people are facing.
Careers Events
Four major events a year are held at Leeds First Direct Arena, attracting over 20,000 visitors. Leeds Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair is the largest apprenticeship career event in the North and is now in its 11th year. SEND Next Choices gives young people with special educational needs and disabilities the chance to prepare for life after education, and is the biggest of its type in the UK. The Digital and Creative Skills Fairs showcase opportunities in two of our spotlight sectors.
Spotlight: Digital Sector
We are working with digital employers to tackle digital skills gaps by opening up employment opportunities for those who don't see a place for themselves in digital and encouraging the upskilling of existing teams. Companies including Burberry and Sky opened their doors to young people as part of Leeds Unleashed in 2022, and skills provider hundo has given Leeds City College students the chance to build an online metaverse version of Leeds Digital Careers Fair and gain valuable work experience in digital.
Spotlight: Net Zero
We are inspiring and informing the next generation about green skills as well as providing pathways into green jobs and upskilling the existing workforce to ensure a just transition for people and businesses. A recycling project at HMP Wealstun is providing work experience opportunities for prisoners whilst supporting the green economy, and tenants from four housing associations are being supported by the construction sector to develop construction and retrofitting skills.
