The square, which has been transformed by one of the city’s most ambitious ever transport projects, will be the setting for a brand new Thor’s Tipi bar, monthly artisan market and a line-up of family-friendly activities as well a big screen showing some of the season’s biggest sporting highlights.

Bank of England Expansion

Bank of England announce a major expansion to presence in Leeds. Expansion will bring more jobs to Leeds and increase Leeds’s already strong banking status.  The Bank has committed to a headcount of at least 500 staff to be based in Leeds by 2027. 

South Village Scheme 

Caddick Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Homes England at UKREiiF to accelerate the development of South Village in Leeds. Located just off Meadow Road, the £1bn South Village scheme, which can deliver up to 1,925 new homes, will be a focal point for the wider South Bank regeneration area - one of the largest brownfield projects in the UK. 

Development Boost for Site on Leeds South Bank

Leeds City Council can confirm that the preferred bidder for the vacant 0.18-hectare plot at Meadow Lane is property company Glenbrook. Subject to completion of the sale and planning permission the site could bring 35,000 jobs and 8,000 new homes.  

Aire Park Opens First Phase

The first stage of the huge development Aire Park has been completed, with the second phase set to be completed this year. The Park is set to have an amphitheatre, play park, cycle routes and plenty of green space.

ABCD Programme Given Go-ahead for 3 More Sites

Leeds City Council announce decision to expand on the success of its Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) with introducing 3 new pathfinder sites. Sites will include Bramley, Hawksworth Wood area, Kirkstall, and Little London and Woodhouse. This will bring the total number of sites across Leeds to 17 and provide a safe space for local people to lead on and make changes in the communities where they live. 

National Poetry Centre Announces Nick Barley as Director

Nick Barley appointed as first director for the National Poetry Centre to be based in Leeds. Nick is an acclaimed literary leader known for his 14-year tenure as Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
